Important information for visiting teachers

Thank you for planning a visit to Australian Parliament House.

Before you arrive, please note:

To participate in Parliament House education programs, your students must be accompanied by a teacher. For security purposes, all adults accompanying school groups that are participating in the programs must present current photo identification. The accompanying adults retain duty of care for all students at all times while at Parliament House.

Please arrive at the front entrance of Parliament House 15 minutes prior to your visit. From the security screening proceed to the information desk in the foyer with your booking paperwork to confirm participant numbers and present Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) paperwork for authorisation.

Please leave all bags and backpacks on the bus. During sitting weeks tour participants will need to cloak all items prior to entering the chambers and this can be time-consuming with school groups.

Filming and photography in the private areas of Parliament House is strictly prohibited. These restrictions include the House of Representatives and Senate Chambers whilst the Houses are sitting. Photography in the public areas of the building is permitted.

When entering the underground car park, coach/buses must proceed through the boom gate to the designated coach/bus parking bays at the rear of the public carpark.

No previous knowledge or classroom preparation is required before your visit—however, your students might like to do some research on their electorate, and the member and senators who represent them.

You can help prepare your students for their visit with the Parliament House virtual tour and Parliamentary Education Office resources.

To assist with planning, please review the Public Liability Certificate  and Risk Assessment Statement.
