CITES is a multilateral environmental treaty that regulates international trade in specimens of wild fauna and flora. CITES provides for different degrees of regulation of trade, resulting in different levels of protection for each species. The level of protection is determined by the Appendix listing of the species. Trade is defined as export, re-export, import and introduction from the sea.
