Submission 64

      BAULKHAM HILLS HIGH SCHOOL P&C
      SUBMISSION FOR :
INQUIRY INTO APPROPRIATE ROLES OF TAFE

Following discussion at our recent P&C meeting it was resolved that:

        - the articulation process is considered to be most valuable and encourages
students who may not be ready for university at the end of Year 12 to
proceed to TAFE and then perhaps to further study at a higher level
- that TAFE continue to provide vocational, applied education with definite
outcomes to students at all levels of education up to and including
          advanced diploma level
- that TAFE continue and expand its excellent counselling and support
services to the widest variety of students, including those in the schools
sector who are ready to proceed to further education and training but
who may not be aware of the excellent employment prospects offered after
          TAFE training
- that programs which focus on the unemployed and/or disabled be maintained,
especially if they result in favourable employment outcomes or progression
          into mainstream TAFE classes
- that programs which are favourable for those returning to the workforce,
especially after child-rearing(eg the WOW program), be maintained on
          an equity of access basis
