to: extend for a further 3 years the declared areas offence that is scheduled to sunset on 7 September 2024; and provide that the provisions under which the Minister for Foreign Affairs can declare an area for the purpose of the declared areas offence also cease to have effect on 7 September 2024; and Intelligence Services Act 2001
to remove an obsolete provision which provides for the Parliamentary Joint committee on Intelligence and Security to review the declared areas provisions before 7 January 2024.

Bills and committees
The House of Representatives Selection Committee and the Senate Selection of Bills Committee routinely consider whether bills should be referred to committees for inquiry and report. The House Committee reports its determinations to the chamber, while the Senate Committee makes recommendations which the Senate may then adopt. Bills may also be referred to committees by either chamber or by the relevant minister to House and joint committees.
