Summary

Amends the

Australian Citizenship Act 1948
to: update aspects of Australian citizenship law and, in particular, enhance provisions relating to citizenship of children and young adults; enable adult Australian citizens to retain their citizenship when they acquire another citizenship; and strengthen existing integrity measures, including ‘people smuggling’ provisions. Also contains application and transitional provisions.
