Summary

Introduced with the Australian Research Council (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2000, the bill establishes: the Australian Research Council (ARC) as an independent agency within the Education, Training and Youth Affairs portfolio to provide advice and recommendations on funding to the Minister; and a funding regime for competitive research grants for the higher education system (the National Competitive Grants Program) which will be administered by the ARC.
