Pursuant to Senate Standing Order
38(7), I present to you the interim report of the Senate Standing Committee on
Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport on its inquiry into the Administration
of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and related matters.
On 29 May 2008, the Senate Standing Committee on Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport resolved, under
Standing Order 25(2)(b), to conduct a formal inquiry into the Administration of
the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and related matters and to report by 9 July 2008.
The committee held public hearings
in Canberra on Wednesday 2 July 2008 and Thursday 3 July 2008, heard evidence
from a range of witnesses. The committee has received 55 submissions.
At the public hearing's a number
of questions to witnesses were placed on notice. To allow for the consideration
of responses to those questions on notice, and to ensure that the issues raised
during the inquiry are thoroughly considered and appropriately addressed, the
committee will present its final report no later than Thursday 28 August 2008.
