Inquiry into the Criminal Code Amendment (Animal Protection) Bill 2015

INTERIM REPORT

Dear Mr President

The Criminal Code Amendment (Animal Protection) Bill 2015 was referred to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee by the Senate on 12 February 2015, for inquiry and report by 13 May 2015. On 12 May 2015, the Senate agreed to extend the reporting to 29 May 2015.

The Committee has received 1671 submissions, and has held a public hearing in Canberra on 15 May 2015. The Committee has been unable to conclude its report in time to meet its 29 May 2015 reporting date.

The Committee intends to present its final report on 12 June 2015, allowing it to fully consider the evidence and properly conclude its deliberations.
