On 27 June 2018 the Senate established the Select Committee on Electric Vehicles to inquire into the use and manufacture of electric vehicles in Australia.

The closing date for submissions is 27 July 2018.

The committee is due to report on 17 October 2018.

On the 17 October 2018, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 4 December 2018​.

On the 4 December 2018 the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 30 January 2019​.

The select committee concluded its inquiry when it tabled its report on 30 January 2019.
