Review of the Criminal Code Amendment (War Crimes) Bill 2016

On 10 October 2016, the Attorney-General, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, asked the Committee to inquire into and report on the Criminal Code Amendment (War Crimes) Bill 2016.

The Bill seeks to amend Division 268 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) to ensure consistency between Australian domestic law and international law with regard to the treatment of members of organised armed groups in non-international armed conflicts, and with the principle of proportionality.

The Committee tabled its report on 18 November 2016.
