SUMMARY OF ALTERATIONS

CUSTOMS TARIFF PROPOSAL (No. 1) 2018

Reasons for changes: To eliminate the customs duty rates for certain goods in Schedule 8.

Date of effect: 20 September 2017

Alterations to the Customs Tariff Act 1995

The Australian Government agreed to eliminate customs duty rates on certain pesticides and herbicides imported from Indonesia. These changes will be implemented through Schedule 8 of the Customs Tariff Act 1995 which provides for preferential rates of customs duty for Association of South East Asian Nations – Australia – New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) originating goods.

If there is no rate legislated for a tariff subheadings in Schedule 8 then the customs duty rate for relevant goods is ‘Free’. Customs Tariff Proposal (No. 1) 2018 will repeal the table items from Schedule 8 outlined below, resulting in a ‘Free’ rate of customs duty for goods classified to these subheadings that meet the AANZFTA origin requirements.
