Your first speech is a great way to speak about issues you are passionate about. You could enter as an individual or get your whole school involved!
Australian students enrolled in years 10 to 12 are invited to enter the 'My First Speech' competition.
You can enter as a school or as an individual.
Imagine yourself as a newly elected Member of the House of Representatives. Your task is to write a 3 minute speech about issues you are passionate about then record yourself presenting the speech on video.
The video should be in MPG, MPEG, MPEG 4, AVI, MOV or DVD format with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels or above and no longer than 3 minutes in length. Opening titles or end credits are not required.
Winners will be invited to Canberra to deliver their speech during Parliament House Open Day on 24 August 2013.
Videos may be used as part of a public exhibition on First Speeches in Parliament House in August 2013.
To enter the competition, submit your video on CD or DVD along with a written transcript of your speech and completed competition forms to:

Entries close Friday, 26 July 2013.
One winner and one runner-up will be flown to Canberra with a parent or guardian, with two nights’ accommodation, to attend the Parliament House 25th anniversary Open Day on Saturday 24 August 2013 where they will deliver thier speeches at the event.
The winner will also receive a cash prize of $750 ($250 to the student and $500 to the school). The runner up will receive a cash prize of $350 ($100 to the student and $250 to the school).
