Current Inquiries

The committee welcomes submissions on steps that can be taken to progress towards a successful referendum on Indigenous Constitutional Recognition. The closing date for submissions is 30 October 2014.

9 September - Boulder Town Hall, Burt Street, Kalgoorlie-Boulder
10 September - Meeting Room 3, Level 2, 21 Mounts Bay Road, Perth
4 November - Dubbo
5 November - Newcastle
12 November - Launceston
13 November - Hobart

The committee has postponed its hearings in Port Lincoln (15 Sep), Port Augusta (16 Sep), Adelaide (17 Sep), Sydney (26 Sep), Canberra (3 Oct) and Alice Springs (7 Oct).

About this committee

On 28 November 2012, the Parliament agreed that a Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples be appointed to inquire into and report on steps that can be taken to progress towards a successful referendum on Indigenous constitutional recognition.

On 2 December 2013, the Parliament agreed to establish this committee in the 44th Parliament
