Current Inquiries

The committee is inquiring into steps that can be taken to progress towards a successful referendum on Indigenous Constitutional Recognition.

Submissions closed on 31 January 2015.

The committee is required to present its final report to Parliament on or before 30 June 2015.

The joint select committee concluded its inquiry when it tabled its report on 25 June 2015.

About this committee

On 28 November 2012, the Parliament agreed that a Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples be appointed to inquire into and report on steps that can be taken to progress towards a successful referendum on Indigenous constitutional recognition.

On 2 December 2013, the Parliament agreed to establish this committee in the 44th Parliament
