Future of Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry

On 25 June 2014 the Senate referred an inquiry into the future sustainability of Australia’s strategically vital naval shipbuilding industry to the Senate Economics References Committee for inquiry and report by 1 July 2015.

On 10 July 2014, as part of its broader inquiry into Australia's naval shipbuilding industry, the committee resolved to inquire into the tender process for the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) new supply ships as its first order of business. The committee has determined that it would report on this matter by 27 August 2014.

Therefore, the inquiry consists of two parts, with different terms of reference, as well as different submissions closing dates and reporting dates:

Part I:  Tender process for the RAN's new supply ships - submissions close
17 July 2014, reporting date is 27 August 2014 (see terms of reference)

Part II:  Broader inquiry into the future of Australia's shipbuilding industry - submissions close 1 December 2014, reporting date is 1 July 2015.
