The Government needs to take the recommendations of this report seriously and respond to it in a prompt and comprehensive fashion.
Labor accepts the principles and general aims of the recommendations contained in the Committee’s report. However we note the Committee was not able to prepare detailed recommendations, including fiscal impacts from the implementation of recommendations.
As a result, recommendations which involve expenditure of public money should be considered through a budget process in the ordinary way.
Labor will settle its policies in relation to health ahead of the next election in the usual manner.
