On 1 August 2019 the Senate referred an inquiry into the regulation of auditing in Australia to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services for report by 1 March 2020.

On 12 February 2020, the Senate extended the time for the presentation of the report to 1 September 2020.

Following a resolution of the committee on 14 May 2020, and in accordance with the motion agreed by the Senate on 23 March 2020, the reporting date for the inquiry has been extended to 2 December 2020.
