On 13 November 2013, Senator Deborah O'Neill (New South Wales, ALP) was chosen by the Parliament of New South Wales to fill a casual vacancy in the Senate until 30 June 2014. Another joint sitting of the Parliament of New South Wales will need to be held in the future to fill a subsequent vacancy commencing on 1 July 2014.
