Report - Criteria for release from detention

On Monday 1 December 2008, the Joint Standing Committee on Migration tabled its report entitled Immigration detention in Australia: A new beginning - Criteria for release from detention. This is the first report of a series of three against the inquiry's terms of reference. The inquiry is ongoing and subsequent reports will be tabled in 2009.

On Tuesday 2 December 2008, the report was tabled in the Senate by Senator Anne McEwen; Senator Sarah Hanson-Young; Senator Alan Eggleston and debated in the House of Representatives Main Committee by Mr Michael Danby MP (Chair); Mrs Danna Vale MP (Deputy Chair); Mrs Yvette D'Ath MP; Mr Petro Georgiou MP; Mr Tony Zappia MP and Mr Mark Dreyfus MP.
