Commencement: While the Bill will commence on
Royal Assent, the levy rate changes proposed by items 2 and 3 of
Schedule 1 will apply from 1 July 1996
To fund the Australian Animal Health Council Limited at an
initial operative rate of levy of 5 cents per head of cattle and
head of cattle that is a leviable bobby calf or a prescribed rate
up to a maximum of 50 cents per head.

The term 'AAHC' is defined by item 1 of Schedule
1 of the Bill to mean the Australian Animal Health Council
Limited, A.C.N. 071-890-956.
A levy is imposed on sales of cattle, delivery of cattle to a
processor and the slaughter of certain cattle by the Cattle
Transaction Levy Act 1995 (the Principal Act). Section 5 of
the Principal Act sets out the maximum rate of levy which may be
imposed on each head of cattle and head of cattle that is a
leviable bobby calf. Proceeds raised by the levy are disbursed
between the Meat Industry Council, Australian Meat and Live-stock
Corporation, Meat Research Corporation, National Residue Survey and
National Cattle Disease Eradication Trust Account.
