Establishes the Australian Crime Commission (ACC) which will combine the functions of the National Crime Authority (NCA), the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence and the Office of Strategic Crime Assessments. The bill: amends the
National Crime Authority Act 1984
(which will be renamed to the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002
) to: replace the NCA with the ACC and establish the governing and administrative regimes for the new body, including provision for its review after 1 January 2006; makes consequential amendments to 21 other Acts; and makes amendments to the renamed Australian Crime Commission Act 2002
, Proceeds of Crime (Consequential Amendments and Transitional Provisions) Act 2002
and Telecommunications (Interception) Act 1979
contingent on the commencement of other Acts. Also contains transitional provisions.
