ParlView Help


ParlView, a new service from the Department of Parliamentary Services, allows you to watch, replay, pause and download broadcasts of the Senate and House of Representatives, Parliamentary committee hearings, other events and press conferences.

This page provides instructions for viewing, downloading and searching ParlView.

ParlView – Viewing and Downloading

ParlView is an exciting new service brought to you by the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS).

ParlView allows you to view hearings/media of the Senate and House of Representatives, Parliamentary committees, and of selected press conferences and special events.

You can stream the Parliament to your computer in near-realtime, search for older video on demand to stream to your computer, or search for and download video clips. You must agree to Conditions of Access as part of performing these functions.

Note: The Parlview service is currently based on Adobe Flash. DPS is currently working on a solution that will make this service available on a variety of operating systems and devices.

To access ParlView:

  1. Open your Internet Browser and navigate to http://www.aph.gov.au and click on the ParlView link. You will see this screen:

The screen defaults to the Browse All tab which displays the first 20 of the 100 most recently recorded items.

  1. Click on the other tabs (Senate, House of Representatives, Joint Committees etc) to view recordings for those specific areas.

  2. To view a particular recording click on VIEW.

Note: If you click on View you will need to select Show advanced controls and download options for further choices.

  1. To download a video for an item click on the Download Video Download Video button button.

  2. To play click the Play button button.

  3. To skip forward or back to specific points use the Jump options:

  4. To select a portion only of the recording click Mark In where you wish to start and Mark Out where you wish to stop.

  5. Click Reset Markers if you want to change your selections.

  6. Select the resolution quality.

  7. Click Download button when ready.

  8. Click Accept to accept the Conditions of Access.

  9. Your download will be prepared – file preparation and download time will vary depending on the size of the file and your internet connection speed.

  10. Open or save your file as required.

ParlView - Searching

ParlView allows you to view hearings/media of the Senate and House of Representatives, Parliamentary committees, and of selected press conferences and special events.

Video clips can be located by either browsing or searching.

To search ParlView:

  1. Open your Internet Browser and navigate to http://www.aph.gov.au and click on the ParlView link.

  2. Click on Search ParlView to bring up the following:

  3. Enter relevant search criteria:

(a) Source – may choose one or more (or leave blank)

(b) Dates – select date range or choose from the drop-down (or leave blank)

(c) Search – enter search term, e.g. “law enforcement” (or leave blank)

To locate vision in the ParlView archive you must have the date and time of the proceedings. Otherwise, search ParlInfo or hansard transcripts.

  1. Click Search.

    Your results will be displayed at the bottom of the search screen:

Note: You can also search for ParlView clips via ParlInfo Search. A new sub-collection called ParlView has been added to the HoR, Senate, Committees and Media collections.

The clips available under Media are for special events, press conferences and other media.
