The Melbourne Cup comes to Parliament House

Wednesday 3 September 2014

The 2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour will be visiting Parliament House. A first in the 12 year history of the Cup Tour, visitors can avail themselves of the opportunity to get up close with the most famous sporting trophy in Australia.

The trophy, which is made of 18 carat gold and is valued at $175,000, will be on display in the Marble Foyer from 3.00pm to 5.30pm.

The trophy will be accompanied by Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour ambassadors, Des Gleeson (former chief steward for Racing Victoria) and John Marshall (1999 Melbourne Cup winning jockey). They will share their Melbourne Cup stories with those in attendance. All are encouraged to attend to capture the moment. And of course, remember to bring your camera or phone.

Another bunch of flowers — special exhibition

19 August – 19 October 2014

You can spend your whole lifetime cleaning the house. I like watching the patina grow. If the house looks dirty, buy another bunch of flowers, is my advice – Margaret Olley

Be charmed by stunning floral-themed artworks from some of Australia's best-loved artists — including pieces rarely on public display.
