Inquiry into Norfolk Island Electoral Matters

On 1 November 2000 the Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Senator the Hon Ian Macdonald, requested that the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories inquire into, and report on, laws relating to eligibility to vote and candidature for the Legislative Assembly of Norfolk Island.

At the time Parliament was prorogued in October 2001, the Committee had not yet finalised its report and the reference subsequently lapsed. On 7 May 2002 the Committee of the new Parliament had the matter re-referred and a draft report is in the process of being completed.
