Terms of reference

The Resolution of Appointment of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties allows it to inquire into and report upon:

  1. matters arising from treaties and related National Interest Analyses and proposed treaty actions presented or deemed to be presented to the Parliament;
  2. any question relating to a treaty or other international instrument, whether or not negotiated to completion, referred to the committee by:
    1. either House of the Parliament, or
    2. a Minister; and
  3. such other matters as may be referred to the committee by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and on such conditions as the Minister may prescribe.

2 International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

Recommendation 1

The Committee supports the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and recommends that binding treaty action be taken.

3 Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia

Recommendation 2

The Committee supports the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (Indonesia, 24 February 1976),as amended by theProtocol amending the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asiaand theSecond Protocol amending the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, and recommends that binding treaty action be taken.

4 Supplementary Agreement with the United Kingdom of Great Britain concerning the Anglo-Australian Optical Telescope

Recommendation 3

The Committee supports the SupplementaryAgreement between the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concerning the Anglo-Australian Optical Telescope, at Siding Spring, New South Wales, Australia and recommends that binding treaty action be taken.
