  Part of a package of seven bills to reform the private health insurance sector, the bill replaces the current regulatory framework with a new regulatory framework which includes measures such as: the introduction of Broader Health Cover which will cover out of hospital services which substitute for, or avert, hospital care; premiums reduction and incentive payments schemes; standard product information; conversion to for-profit status; restructures, mergers and acquisitions of health funds; a comparative website for consumers; changes to Lifetime Health Cover for those with 10 years’ continuous cover; and provides for the Office of Private Health Insurance Ombudsman.

  The bill: provides for the administration of a poker machine harm reduction tax to be payable by a licensed operator on revenue derived from licensed poker machines; establishes the Poker Machine Harm Reduction Transition Fund Supervisory Board to determine grants to be made from the Fund for the purposes of funding community activities, rehabilitation and prevention programs, and provides for promotional educational programs highlighting the risks of gambling.
