Summary: The bill: establishes the independent statutory office of the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency; provides for the functions, appointment, terms and conditions of appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the agency, and enables the CEO to appoint committees; provides for staff and consultants; establishes the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Council to provide advice to the CEO and the minister as required; provides for the agency’s reporting requirements; requires a review of the agency to be undertaken after five years; and requires the minister to present a report of the review to Parliament.
