Role and Responsibilities
Bronwyn Notzon is the Serjeant-at-Arms in the Department of the House of Representatives, and is responsible for providing advice, services and support for the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives. The main Chamber responsibilities of the Serjeant during the sittings of the House relate to assisting the Speaker to maintain order. The Serjeant-at-Arms is also the corporate operating officer for the Department, and is responsible for the financial management, information and publishing, and human resources, of the Department.
Bronwyn commenced as Serjeant-at-Arms on 19 May 2014. She was previously the Usher of the Black Rod in the Senate, and is the first person in the Australian Parliament to have held both positions.
Bronwyn holds a BA (Hons) and LLB (Hons) and is admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. She is currently studying for her LLM, focusing on constitutional and public law. Prior to working in the Parliament, Bronwyn practiced as a lawyer within the Australian Public Service.
