Department of Parliamentary Services

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) supports the work of the Federal Parliament.

It is the principal support agency for Parliament House—a building where more than 3,500 people work on sitting days and which nearly one million visitors visit each year.

The Parliament House complex occupies a 35-hectare site, comprises of approximately 4,700 rooms and contains more than 100,000 maintainable assets. 

The Department of Parliamentary Services has a workforce of approximately 700 staff members whose role is to support the functioning of Parliament and parliamentarians through the provision of professional services, advice and facilities. 

DPS staff are dedicated to the task of providing first-class support services to the Australian Parliament and the wider community. 

An example of the diversity of DPS is the work of the Parliament Maintenance Officers who look after the Parliament House flag.
