Staff from the Indian Lok Sabha visit Parliament House

Indian parliamentary staff with the Clerk of the House of Representatives, the Deputy Clerk of the Senate and the Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives

From Monday 14 October to Friday 18 October 2019, parliamentary officials from the Lok Sabha (Indian Lower House of Parliament) visited the Australian Parliament for a week-long study visit program.

The group of ten delegates was led by Mr M.L.K. Raja, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, and comprised of senior staff from a diverse range of areas within the Secretariat.

The delegates participated in sessions on the Parliament’s structure, procedures and administration, as well as the many corporate services associated with Parliament House. They found the program highly “educative and informative” and enjoyed hearing about the Parliament from many different perspectives.

Participants commented that particular highlights included meeting the Clerk of the House of Representatives, as well as the opportunity to meet, discuss and have attachments with their counterparts from the Australian Parliament.

This is the third such visit to Australia by Lok Sabha staff, and reciprocated the successful program hosted by the Indian Parliament for officers from the Australian Parliament in early 2019.
