In the first week of October, Australia’s Parliament welcomed ten senior officials from the Lok Sabha (Indian Lower House of Parliament), who participated in a week-long study visit program.

The group was led by Joint Secretary Mr Naresh Chander Gupta and comprised of experienced staff from areas including parliamentary committees, research, library and media.

The participants enjoyed learning about all aspects of the Australian Parliament’s procedure, administration and operations, including the Parliamentary Budget Office and Parliamentary Education Office, which were new to them.

Other highlights included meeting the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the Clerks of the House and the Senate. Participants also had attachments to parliamentary offices of their choice.

This visit followed the successful first visit made this time last year by ten other officials from the Lok Sabha.

In 2019 the Lok Sabha will host its first reciprocal study visit program for officers from the Australian Parliament.
