Visit to the Australia Parliament by the European Parliaments Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand

In February, the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand (DANZ) visited Australia. The delegation was led by Ms Ulrike Müller, Chair of the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand, and accompanied by the Ambassador of the European Union, His Excellency Dr Michael Pulch.

During their short time in country, the delegation visited Canberra and Melbourne, meeting with various federal parliamentarians and their representatives. While in Canberra, the delegation met with members of both the government and opposition to discuss issues of common interest, including trade and emergency management. The delegation also met with His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

In Melbourne, the delegation were briefed by Dr Richard Thornton, Chief Executive Officer of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre. They also attended a lunch hosted by the Presiding Officers, the Hon Tony Smith MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, President of the Senate. The delegation’s time in Australia concluded with the AFL State of Origin Bushfire Relief Match at Marvel Stadium.
