From: alistair hart [akombilife@yahoo.com.au] Sent: Wednesday, 14 August 2002 11:11 PM To: ecita.sen@aph.gov.au Subject: Submission to Ranger and Jabiluka Senate Inquiry Submission to Ranger and Jabiluka Senate Inquiry Name:Alistair John Hart Address:13 Joan Street, Bungalow, Qld 4870 Date:14/8/02 Submission to Ranger and Jabiluka Senate Inquiry I ask the Senate Inquiry to recommend: incremental winding down of existing uranium operations at Ranger and measures to prevent any further uranium mining operations within the Kakadu/Arnhem Land region. Continued uranium exraction in these populated areas, is irrespopnsible. We already have documented breaches not just of environmental standards re: release of wastewater from the mine and the inherent breakdown in communication that is promoted by the current regulatory regime. Imagine getting your water and fish from a potentially radioactive watercourse. This is the reality already faced by indigenous people in AUSTRALIA!! The long term economic viability and sustainability of not just the national asset base, but our social cohesion and potential for future growth and reconciliation is at stake here. You are the people empowered to advocate for social and economic justice. The reality is, if you have Australia's interests at heart, which is presumably why you enetered parliament in the first place, you will help put an end to the economic, social and environmental injustice that is Ranger and Potentially Jabiluka uranium mining operations. Yours sincerely, Alistair John Hart 14/8/02 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
