About the tour
From the commissioning of Australian Parliament House — when 25,000 high quality furniture pieces were commissioned — and through its 32 year history as its art collection grew to over 7,000 works — both art and furniture have been integrated into the building’s design detailing, symbolism, ethos and philosophy.
Our guide shares the stories of the pieces in the Marble Foyer, The Great Hall, Members Hall and the Main Committee Room, discussing design, history and symbolic meaning. As your tour walks you through Parliament House you will start to unravel the rich layers of meaning and thought behind each piece.
We also spend time in the new exhibition Voyage of Discovery: Sir Joseph Banks' Florilegium, featuring plates from the folio held by the Parliament Art Collection as well as loan objects from the Australian National Herbarium.
