From grand state visits to community events, Australian Parliament House is a destination for formal and not-so-formal occasions.

The building

Opened on 9 May 1988 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Parliament House was designed by Romaldo Giurgola of Mitchell/Giurgola and Thorp architects and constructed almost entirely of Australian materials.

The gardens

Thirty-three hectares of landscaped grounds, sweeping lawns and intimate courtyards make up the Parliamentary Precincts.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.
