SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 11 OF 2018

  1. The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 19 September 2018 at 7.17 PM.
  2. The committee recommends that—
    1. the provisions of the Aviation Transport Security Amendment Bill 2018 be referred immediately to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 16 October 2018 (see appendix 1 for a statement of reasons for referral);
    2. contingent upon introduction in the House of Representatives, the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Design and Distribution Obligations and Product Intervention Powers) Bill 2018 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 9 November 2018 (see appendix 2 for a statement of reasons for referral); and
    3. contingent upon introduction in the House of Representatives, the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Making Sure Foreign Investors Pay Their Fair Share of Tax in Australia and Other Measures) Bill 2018, the Income Tax (Managed Investment Trust Withholding Tax) Amendment Bill 2018 and the Income Tax Rates Amendment (Sovereign Entities) Bill 2018 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 9 November 2018 (see appendix 3 for a statement of reasons for referral).
  3. The committee recommends that the following bills not be referred to committees:
    • Crimes Legislation Amendment (Police Powers at Airports) Bill 2018
    • Customs Amendment (Collecting Tobacco Duties at the Border) Bill 2018
    • Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Bill 2018
    • Treasury Laws Amendment (Gift Cards) Bill 2018
    • Treasury Laws Amendment (Supporting Australian Farmers) Bill 2018.
  4. The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:
