Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Legislation Amendment Bill (No.
2) 2004
On 4 August 2004, the Senate referred the provisions of the above bill to
the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee
for inquiry and report by 2 September 2004.
The bill proposes amendments to the Australian Meat and
Live-stock Industry Act 1997. The Amendments implement a recommendation
of the Keniry Report into export of live animals. It provides that the
Minister may determine more than one red meat industry organisation to be a
marketing body and a research body. These bodies will receive funding from
compulsory charges applied to the export industry.

The Committee
invites submissions on either of these inquiries. The Committee is required
to report by 2 September and would like to receive submissions prior to 18
August 2004.
All
communications with the Committee and its Secretariat are protected by
parliamentary privilege. It is expected that submissions will be
published unless clearly marked as confidential. Persons making
submissions must not disclose them without the prior approval of the
Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but
unauthorised release of submissions is not.
