Information about the Inquiry

On 20 June 2006 the Senate referred to the Finance and Public Administration References Committee for inquiry the transparency and accountability of Commonwealth funding and expenditure.

The Committee is to examine the impact of the outcomes budget reporting and other practices on the Parliament's ability to scrutinise, approve and monitor the Commonwealth government's appropriations and spending. It is also to consider options for improving the transparency and specificity of budget documents and other measures to improve the Parliament's oversight of Commonwealth funding and expenditure.

The Committee is to report by 1 March 2007.
