Selection of Bills Committee report
The Senate adopted report no. 9 of the Selection of Bills Committee, and made the following references:

  • Building and Construction Industry (Restoring Workplace Rights) Bill 2008–Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committee–to report by 30 November 2008
  • Social Security and Veterans’ Entitlements Legislation Amendment (Schooling Requirements) Bill 2008–Community Affairs Committee–to report by 13 November 2008
  • Tax Laws Amendment (Political Contributions and Gifts) Bill 2008–Economics Committee–to report by 5 November 2008

Reporting date extended

The Senate agreed to extend the reporting date for the inquiry of the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee into the implementation, operation and administration of the legislation underpinning Carbon Sink Forests to 23 September 2008.

Notice of motion given

A notice of motion was given to refer the Horse Disease Response Levy Bill 2008 and 2 related bills to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee for report by 3 October 2008.


The Senate agreed to various changes to the membership of committees.
