Senator Jeannie
Ferris
The Senate paid tribute to the memory of the late Senator
Jeannie Ferris with a
motion of condolence moved by the Leader of the Government in
the Senate (Senator Minchin).
Resignations
The President informed the Senate of the resignation of Senator
Santoro and Senator Vanstone.
New senators
Ms Suzanne Boyce and Mr Simon Birmingham were sworn in as
senators to fill vacancies in the representation of Queensland and
South Australia respectively.

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Regulations and
Ordinances gave
notices for the disallowance of the following instruments:
-
regulations to amend the Australian Federal Police Regulations
1979 to prescribe matters related to the suspension of AFP
appointees from their duties and matters related to drug testing,
which were previously prescribed by the Australian Federal Police
(Discipline) Regulations 2006
-
an instrument to set out the circumstances in which the
Repatriation Commission may accept financial liability for
pharmaceutical benefits provided to an entitled person for
treatment of malignant neoplasia
-
an instrument to set out the circumstances in which the
Repatriation Commission may accept financial responsibility for
treatment provided to entitled persons for malignant neoplasia
