Environment, Communications and the Arts Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy; Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts
For current information about the committee's hearings

The committee met from 9.03 am until 11.03 pm.

The committee called:

  • the department and agencies of the Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy portfolio, including Australia Post, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), the NBN Co and the Australian Communications and Media Authority; and
  • the department and agencies of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts portfolio, including Screen Australia and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

The committee will next meet on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 in Senate Committee Room 2S3, again calling the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts portfolio, commencing with the Supervising Scientist.

Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Finance and Deregulation; Human Services; Parliament; Prime Minister and Cabinet

The committee met from 9.13 am until 11.02 pm.

The committee called the Department of the Senate and the Department of Parliamentary Services, and the department and agencies of the Prime Minister and Cabinet portfolio, including the Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, the Australian Public Service Commission and the Department of Climate Change.

The committee will next meet on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 in Senate Committee Room 2S1, calling:

  • the department and agencies of the Finance and Deregulation portfolio, commencing with Medibank Private Ltd; and
  • the department and agencies of the Human Services portfolio, commencing with the department.

Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Attorney-General; Immigration and Citizenship

The committee met from 9 am until 11 pm.

The committee called the department and agencies of the Attorney-General's portfolio, including Australian Human Rights Commission, Australian Law Reform Commission, Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre, Family Court of Australia, Federal Magistrates Court, Federal Court of Australia, National Native Title Tribunal, Classification Board, Classification Review Board, Australian Crime Commission, Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and the Australian Federal Police.

The committee will next meet on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 in the Main Committee Room, calling the Immigration and Citizenship portfolio, commencing with the Migration Review Tribunal and Refugee Review Tribunal.

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government

The committee met from 9 am until 11 pm.

The committee called the department and agencies of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio, including Land and Water Australia, Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Australian Fisheries Management Authority, Bureau of Rural Sciences, Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, Grains Research and Development Corporation, Wheat Exports Australia, Australian Wool Innovation and Meat and Livestock Australia.

The committee will next meet on Tuesday, 20 October 2009 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1, calling the Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government portfolio, commencing with the department.
