An agenda for each of the legislation committees listed below is available on the Senate webpage and will be updated as necessary.

The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider to the next day.

Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Communications, Information Technology and the Arts; Environment and Heritage

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.07am until 11.03pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio (outcomes 1 and 2)
  • will commence the Environment and Heritage portfolio (the department and outcomes 1 and 2) when it meets on Thursday 26 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Finance and Administration; Parliament; Prime Minister and Cabinet

The committee met from 9.04am until 10.25pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Finance and Administration portfolio (completed outcomes 1 and 2 of the department, Future Fund Management Agency, Comsuper, CSS Board, PSS Board, and Commonwealth Grants Commission)
  • will continue the Finance and Administration portfolio (Department of Human Services, Centrelink, Health Insurance Commission, outcomes 3 and 4 of the department, and Australian Electoral Commission) when it meets on Thursday 26 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Attorney-General; Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.03am until 11.01pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs portfolio (completed Internal Product of the department)
  • will continue the Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs portfolio (outcomes 1 to 5 of the department, Migration Agents Registration Authority, Migration Review Tribunal, Refugee Review Tribunal, and Torres Strait Regional Authority) when it meets on Thursday 26 May 2005 in the Main Committee Room

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Transport and Regional Services

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.05am until 11.01pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio (completed Management Services and Corporate Governance, Food and Agriculture, Biosecurity Australia, and Market Access)
  • will continue the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio (Product Integrity, Animal and Plant Health, Australian Quarantine Inspection Service, Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics, Bureau of Rural Sciences, Rural Policy and Innovation, Fisheries and Forestry, and National Resource Management) when it meets on Thursday 26 May 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1
  • will continue the Transport and Regional Services portfolio (Territories and Local Government, and National Capital Authority) when it meets on Friday 27 May 2005
