The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider the next day.


Community Affairs Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Family and Community Services; Health and Ageing

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.00am until 9.55pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Family and Community Services portfolio
  • will commence the Health and Ageing portfolio when it meets on Thursday 17 February 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Economics Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Industry, Tourism and Resources; Treasury

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.00am until 10.07pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Industry, Tourism and Resources portfolio
  • commenced the Treasury portfolio (completed Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority)
  • will continue the Treasury portfolio (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Productivity Commission, The Treasury, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Taxation Office, Inspector-General of Taxation, Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee, and the National Competition Council) when it meets on Thursday 17 February 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1

Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Education, Science and Training; Employment and Workplace Relations

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.03am until 10.17pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Education, Science and Training portfolio
  • will commence the Employment and Workplace Relations portfolio when it meets on Thursday 17 February 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Defence (including Veterans’ Affairs); Foreign Affairs and Trade

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.00am until 12 midnight.

The committee:

  • commenced the Defence portfolio (completed the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and commenced the Department of Defence [portfolio overview and major corporate areas, outcomes 1 to 3, outcomes 5 and 6, and business processes])
  • will continue the Defence portfolio (portfolio overview and major corporate issues, business processes, coordination and public affairs, people, and defence personnel) when it meets on Friday 18 February 2005 in the Main Committee Room
  • will commence the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio when it meets on Thursday 17 February 2005 in the Main Committee Room
