An agenda for each of the legislation committees listed below is available on the Senate webpage and will be updated as necessary.

The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider the next day.

Community Affairs Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Family and Community Services; Health and Ageing

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.05am until 6.40pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Family and Community Services portfolio (completed outcomes 1 and 2 and commenced outcome 3)
  • will continue the Family and Community Services portfolio (outcomes 3 to 5) when it meets on Tuesday 31 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Economics Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Industry, Tourism and Resources; Treasury

The committee met from 9.00am until 10.41pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Industry, Tourism and Resources portfolio (Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources: completed Industry [including Small Business and Innovation] and General/Corporate; completed IP Australia, and Geoscience Australia)
  • will continue the Industry, Tourism and Resources portfolio (Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources: Resources and Energy; and Tourism Australia) and
  • will commence the Treasury portfolio when it meets on Tuesday 31 May 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1

Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Education, Science and Training; Employment and Workplace Relations

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.04am until 11.00pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Employment and Workplace Relations portfolio (completed output 1.1–Working age payments)
  • will continue the Employment and Workplace Relations portfolio (outcomes 1 to 3, Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency, Australian Industrial Relations Commission and Australian Industrial Registry, Comcare, Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission, Seafarers’ Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority, and Indigenous Business Australia) when it meets on Tuesday 31 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Defence (including Veterans’ Affairs); Foreign Affairs and Trade

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.15am until 10.40pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Defence portfolio (portfolio overview, major corporate issues, Defence Materiel Organisation, defence outcomes 1 and 2, and business processes)
  • completed Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • will continue the Defence portfolio (outcomes 3 to 7, business processes, and people) when in meets on Tuesday 31 May 2005 in the Main Committee Room
