The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider the next day.


Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Communications, Information Technology and the Arts; Environment and Heritage

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.03am until 11.00pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Special Broadcasting Service, Australian Broadcasting Authority and Telstra)
  • will continue the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio (outputs 3.1, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5, outcomes 1 and 2)
  • will commence the Environment and Heritage portfolio (outcome 1) when it meets on Tuesday 15 February 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Finance and Administration; Parliament; Prime Minister and Cabinet

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.08am until 11.04pm.

The committee:

  • completed Parliament
  • competed Prime Minister and Cabinet
  • will commence the Finance and Administration portfolio when it meets on Tuesday 15 February 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Attorney-General; Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs

The committee met from 9.04am until 10.58pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Attorney-General’s portfolio (completed the Attorney-General’s Department, outcomes 1 and 2)
  • will continue the Attorney-General’s portfolio (Australian Federal Police and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation)
  • will commence the Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs portfolio when it meets on Tuesday 15 February 2005 in the Main Committee Room

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Transport and Regional Services

The committee met from 9.00am until 10.36pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Transport and Regional Services portfolio (Corporate Group, Policy and Research Group, Programmes Group and Regulatory Group)
  • will commence the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio
  • may continue the Transport and Regional Services portfolio (Safety and Investigation Group, Programmes Group and Policy and Research Group) [evening hearing] when it meets on Tuesday 15 February 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1
  • will continue the Transport and Regional Services portfolio when it meets on Friday 18 February 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1
