The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider to the next day.

Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Communications, Information Technology and the Arts; Environment and Heritage

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.00am until 10.15pm.

The committee:

  • continued the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio (completed output 3.1: Australia Post, Telstra, and Australian Communications Authority)
  • will continue the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio (outcomes 1 and 2) when it meets on Wednesday 25 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Finance and Administration; Parliament; Prime Minister and Cabinet

The committee met from 9.05am until 11.05pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Prime Minister and Cabinet portfolio (Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Office of National Assessments, Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security, Australian National Audit Office, Australian Public Service Commission, Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman, and National Water Commission)
  • will commence the Finance and Administration portfolio (Department of Finance and Administration, Future Fund Management Agency, Comsuper, CSS Board, PSS Board, and Commonwealth Grants Commission) when it meets on Wednesday 25 May 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Attorney-General; Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs

The committee met from 9.02am until 11.14pm.

The committee:

  • completed the Attorney-General’s portfolio (Australian Federal Police, Australian Crime Commission, ASIO, Australian Institute of Criminology and Criminology Research Council, AUSTRAC, Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner, Australian Government Solicitor, CrimTrac Agency, Director of Public Prosecutions, Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Family Court of Australia, Family Law Council, Federal Court of Australia, Federal Magistrates Court, High Court of Australia, Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, Federal Police Disciplinary Tribunal, Office of Film and Literature Classification, and Australian Customs Service)
  • will commence the Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs portfolio (Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Migration Agents Registration Authority, Migration Review Tribunal, and Refugee Review Tribunal) when it meets on Wednesday 25 May 2005 in the Main Committee Room

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; Transport and Regional Services

The committee met from 8.30am until 11.00pm.

The committee:

  • continued (completed Civil Aviation Safety Authority, AusLink, Maritime and Land Transport, Australian Maritime Safety Authority, and Regional Services)
  • will continue the Transport and Regional Services portfolio (Territories and Local Government, and National Capital Authority) when it meets on Friday 27 May 2005
  • will commence the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry portfolio (Management Services and Corporate Governance, Food and Agriculture, Biosecurity Australia, Market Access, Product Integrity, Animal and Plant Health, and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) when it meets on Wednesday 25 May 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1
