The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day after the legislation committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview on the progress made by each committee and the business each committee expects to consider the next day.

Community Affairs Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Family and Community Services; Health and Ageing

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.05am until 10.55pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Health and Ageing portfolio (completed outcomes 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and Professional Services Review)
  • will continue the Health and Ageing portfolio (outcomes 1, 3, 7, 8, 10 and Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, Private Health Insurance Administration Council, Private Health Insurance Ombudsman, and Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency Ltd) when it meets on Thursday 2 June 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S1

Economics Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Industry, Tourism and Resources; Treasury

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.06am until 11.05pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Treasury portfolio (completed Australian Bureau of Statistics, Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee, National Competition Council, Productivity Commission, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, and Australian Securities and Investments Commission)
  • will continue the Treasury portfolio (The Treasury, Australian Taxation Office, and Inspector-General of Taxation) when it meets on Thursday 2 June 2005 in House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1

Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Education, Science and Training; Employment and Workplace Relations

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.05am until 11.00pm.

The committee:

  • commenced the Education, Science and Training portfolio (completed Cross Portfolio, Australian Research Council, Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, and Science Group)
  • will continue the Education, Science and Training portfolio (Schools Group, Australian National Training Authority, Vocational Education and Training Group, Indigenous and Transitions Group, Higher Education Group, Innovation and Research Systems Group, and International Education Group) when it meets on Thursday 2 June 2005 in Senate Committee Room 2S3

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee

Portfolios allocated: Defence (including Veterans’ Affairs); Foreign Affairs and Trade

For current information about the committee’s hearings

The committee met from 9.00am until 7.00pm.

The committee:

  • commenced  the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio (portfolio overview, and outputs 1.1 and 2.1)
  • will continue the Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio (portfolio overview, outputs 1.1 to 1.4, 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 4.2, enabling services, Australian Agency for International Development, and Australian Trade Commission) when it meets on Thursday 2 June 2005 in the Main Committee Room
