The Senate met from 10 am until 3.43 pm

Death of former Prime Minister

The President informed the Senate of the death, on 21 October 2014, of the Honourable Edward Gough Whitlam, AC, QC, a member of the House of Representatives for the division of Werriwa, New South Wales, from 1952 to 1978, and Prime Minister of Australia from 1972 to 1975

A condolence motion was moved by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Abetz) [statements were made – first speaker]

As a mark of respect the Senate adjourned till Tuesday, 28 October 2014 at 12.30 pm
