PM Abolition of the Gold Travel Pass for Former Politicians (Reflecting Community Standards) Bill 2003

The bill: abolishes the entitlement of former members of Parliament to severance travel and to a Life Gold Pass; provides for limited travel and other entitlements in certain circumstances; and provides for the transfer of certain frequent flyer points to the Commonwealth upon a member—€™s death or retirement. Repeals the Members of Parliament (Life Gold Pass) Act 2002 and contains transitional provisions and a regulation-making power.

Age Discrimination Bill 2003

(Act citation: Age Discrimination Act 2004)

Introduced with the Age Discrimination (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2003, the bill prohibits age discrimination in key areas such as employment, education, access to premises and to goods, services and facilities, provision of accommodation, land dealings, and administration of Commonwealth laws and programs, whilst exempting legitimate differential treatment in areas such as superannuation, taxation, health, social security and migration. Also confers related functions on the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and contains a regulation-making power.

Aged Care Amendment Bill 2004

Amends the Aged Care Act 1997 to: remove the requirement for an aged care reassessment when residents move from low to high care within the same aged care residence; and remove the 5-year limit on payment of accommodation charges thereby allowing providers to levy an accommodation charge for the entire period that a liable person lives in the same aged care residence. Revises Australia—€™s counter-terrorism framework by amending the: Crimes Act 1914 to: extend fixed investigation periods for investigations into suspected terrorism offences; and permit law enforcement agencies to suspend or delay questioning a suspect to make overseas inquiries; Crimes (Foreign Incursions and Recruitment) Act 1978 in relation to foreign incursions offences; Criminal Code Act 1995 in relation to: terrorist organisation membership offences; and offences of providing training to or receiving training from a terrorist organisation; and Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 in relation to commercial exploitation by persons who have committed foreign indictable offences. PM Australian Design Rule Amendment Bill 2004

Australian Energy Market Bill 2004

Introduced with the Trade Practices Amendment (Australian Energy Market) Bill 2004 and in accordance with the intergovernmental Australian Energy Market Agreement, the bill applies the National Electricity Law, the National Electricity Code and other Rules and regulations, as Commonwealth law in offshore areas, to complement their application by the States and the Australian Capital Territory. Also allows regulations to prescribe further State and Territory energy laws to be applied in the offshore areas.
