  1. Data from 2007‐08 to 2016‐17 are sourced from Australian Bureau of Statistics Government Finance Statistics 5512.0. Data from 2017‐18 to 2021‐22 are sourced from 2018‐19 Commonwealth and state budget papers. Data are generally comparable across the two periods, but there are differences in the budget treatment of items across jurisdictions. The data in these charts do not incorporate 2017‐18 final budget results of the Commonwealth and the states. Data is presented on a suitable scale to account for the relative size of different jurisdictions.
  2. These charts eliminate transfers between levels of government to arrive at a consolidated national fiscal position.
  3. The New South Wales projections of revenue and expenses have been adjusted by the PBO to improve comparability between outcomes and forward estimates.
  4. These charts do not incorporate the 2018‐19 Victorian Pre‐Election Budget Update.
